Parkwood Pottery was established in 2007.
We are a self-funding project within Parkwood Centre, a Derbyshire County Council centre in Alfreton, for adults with learning disabilities.
Our ethos and way of working celebrates and develops the skills of our potters, both individually and as a successful small business. We provide training in pottery skills and offer supported employment opportunities. Through both of these, we aim to offer opportunities for the development of individual creativity, confidence, social skills and team working.
Our pots are exhibited and sold in outlets across the East Midlands and we also work with local businesses to develop products unique to them. We see our pots as being pieces of art which can be used and enjoyed every day.
As well as making nice pots, a typical day in our studio also involves fresh coffee in our own mugs, good food at tea-break, good music on the radio and even the occasional bit of dancing as we work.
